Mark Calls For Prayers For Nigeria
President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has expressed optimism that despite the political and economic travails Nigeria is facing current, God will intervene and see the country through.
Senator Mark stated this in Abuja, Wednesday at an early Morning Prayer session at St. Mulumba Catholic Chapel, Apo organised by staff of the Office of the President of the Senate to mark his 62nd birthday.
He noted that though the temptations our leaders, particularly politicians face by the day are numerous, Nigerians’ supplication to God would see them through.
Mark called on Nigerians to continue to pray for the nation and its leaders in order to overcome these challenges. He expressed confidence that the prayers and fasting of Nigerians, especially during the Easter period, would not go in vain.
“There is no gift that is bigger than the gift of prayers. Pray for those you love and those around you. Politicians go through a lot of temptations, countless in number, it is only through our support, fasting and prayers that they can survive and triumph.
“I am hopeful that God will see us through”. “I am certain that our prayers for the country, our leaders during the Easter celebration will not go in vain, all we need as a nation is prayers that God in His infinite mercies should help our land”, the senate president said.
In the homily at the church service, Reverend Father Jerome Bello urged Nigerians to have faith and believe in the country as a way to invoke God’s intervention to every aspect of the nation’s plight.
”God wants us to demonstrate our faith for our miracles to happen. We should also believe in ourselves to overcome any obstacles on our ways. Miracles are not automatic, it happens when we play our own part of faith.” Fr. Jerome said.
He, however, prayed for continuous democratic stability in the country and wisdom for the leaders to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
Prominent Nigerians present at the Mass include Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC): Professor Maurice Iwu, Ministers of Environment, John Odey, Women Affairs, Mrs. Josephine Anenih, Mrs. Josephine Tapgun of Commerce and Industry and her Information & Communications counterpart, Labaran Maku.
