NFF Bans Nnaji Indefinitely
Former Nigeria Premier League (NPL) executive committee member, Barrister Ray Nnaji has been banned by the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF after seeing his case against the NPL thrown out by a Federal High Court.
Nnaji, a former Sports Commissioner in Enugu State, had gone to court to challenge the legality of the NPL after he was disqualified from running for re-election into the board for submitting his nomination form late, and also failing to get a second endorsement for his candidature as prescribed in the electoral guidelines.
In his ruling, Justice Kafarati declared that the case was a purely football matter and therefore should not have come before him at all, as the litigant ought to have employed the internal dispute resolution mechanisms of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Nigeria Premier League.
Immediately after the judgement, the NFF handed down an indefinite ban on Nnaji and ordered him to appear before its Disciplinary Committee.
“Ray Nnaji is suspended from all football matters in this country indefinitely,” said NFF General Secretary Bolaji Ojo-Oba. He will have to appear before the NFF Disciplinary Committee on Tuesday, April 6 (tomorrow).”
Ojo-Oba added that the Disciplinary Committee could decide on further actions against the former NPL Board Member.
There is still one more pending litigation, instituted by Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, former President of the Nigeria Referees Association. NFF sources have said that if his case is also dismissed by the courts, Jaja will face the same fate as Nnaji.
