Group Pledges Unity Among Ugbobi People
A socio-cultural organisation in Ahoada West, Rivers State, the Uzugbani Umeke Ugbobi (UUU) has reiterated its readiness to foster unity among the people of the area in order to attract development projects.
The assertion was made recently by the chairman of the body, Chief Simon S. Uyi during a grand reception at Idu-Ekpeye in honour of four Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), members from the area who had distinguished themselves in politics.
Chief Uyi said the politicians who have caused political and socio-cultural development of the area have made their people proud and urged the youths to emulate them.
“UUU since its formation has been focused on the unity and recognition of Ugbobi. This was not only achieved at the election and coronation of Eze Igbu Ugbobi I, HRH, Eze I. J. Odum but also at the formal inauguration of Ugbobi as an autonomous clan in Ekpeye by HRM, Ft. Lt. Eze Robinson O. Robinson, Eze Ekpeye-Logbo II (rtd) on December 31, 2008.
However, the clan lamented that since the creation of Ahoada West Local Government Area no Ugbobi son or daughter has been a member of Caretaker Committee, and that in the ongoing citing of model primary schools and cottage hospitals by state government, Ugbobi is not considered.
Those honoured by the socio-cultural organisation include, Hon. H. O. Asita, representing Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hope Ikiriko, Ahaoda West in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon. Miller Awori, chairman, Ahoada West Local Government Area and Hon. Ahamefula Elemanya, Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Aquatic Catfish.
Souvenirs were presented to the awardees. While Hon. Asita was honoured for transparent leadership, Hon. (Evang) Ikiriko got awarded for dynamic and vibrant representation. Hon. (Barr) Awori was awarded for his excellent performance and Hon. Elemanya personally received his award for honesty and pragmatic leadership.
Responding on behalf of the awardees, Hon. Elemanya thanked the UUU for recognising them. He further said, “Now I can represent you with authority. For recognising me, I will perform miracles for Ugbobi,” he said.
