Commissioner Lists Qualities of Hardworking Officers
Self-motivation and competence on the job have been described as key values cherished by hardworking and successful public officers all over the world.
The state Information and Communications Commissioner, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, who came out with this at the opening ceremony of the ministry’s training programme for the last batch of over 60 Information Officers redeployed to ministries, local government areas, and other government agencies, observed that where individual officers hardly see the need to improve on their competence, stagnation naturally would set in.
Mrs Semenitari assured the Information Officers and other career staff in the ministry and its parastatals who would want to improve on their competence that the ministry, under her watch, would do everything possible to encourage them.
According to her, part of the vision of the Amaechi administration is to ensure massive participation by the people in the policies and programmes of government, which she noted always engendered greater goodwill for any government where the people were made relevant and carried along in the scheme of things.
Mrs Semenitari, who explained that Information Officers occupied a critical place in public sector information management and dissemination, enjoined them to take the training seriously, since as she put it, they have so much to gain from the array of highly experienced media and public relations practitioners put together for the training.
The Commissioner expressed appreciation to the state government for making the training possible, saying that government stands to gain from the programme as the Information Officers become more effective on their job.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communications, Dr Godwin Mpi, had expressed appreciation to the present administration for making the training of Information Officers possible and advised the officers to take full advantage of the programme to better their output at their various beats across the state.
