Buhari, Atiku Want Team To Visit Yar’Adua
Former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other members of the National Democratic Movement (NDM) have asked the National Assembly, in conjunction with the Federal Government, to set up a 15-member panel of eminent Nigerians to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to ascertain the true state of health of President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Buhari and Atiku, joined by other members of the NDM, including Senator Ben Obi, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, Chief (Mrs) Titi Ajanaku, Chief Dapo Sarumi and Alhaji Sule Hamman, submitted a six-page letter to the president of the Senate, David Mark, on Wednesday.
Mark, who received the group alongside some senators, however said that the National Assembly would continue to be guided by the provisions of the 1999 Constitution in the prevailing situation.
He said: “l believe your intent and purpose here is for the interest of Nigerians. We as legislators are also concerned about the interest of the people. We will operate within the ambits of the constitution and we cannot do anything outside the constitution. We pray that God should give us the courage and wisdom to do what is right for all Nigerians at all time.”
The NDM, in the document submitted to Senator Mark, which was also forwarded to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Dimeji Bankole, said that there was the need to douse the anxiety among the generality of Nigerians.
