Pray For Fallen Heroes’ Families, Cleric Urges
Nigerians have been rugged to continually pray for the families of fallen heroes and support them morally and financially as a mark of honour for their service to the nation.
Venable Dabotubo Young-Harry made the call recently in a sermon at the Inter-Denominational church service marking the 2010 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations at St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Port Harcourt.
At the service attended by the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, members of the state executive council, the Head of Service, Mrs. Esther Anucha, traditional rulers and other dignitaries, Ven. Young-Harry said Nigerians owe the duty of supporting and praying for the well-being of those they left behind in the cause of fighting for the peace and unity of the nation and the world.
The man of God told members of their families to have solace in the fact that any of them that died as a Christian was in the safe hands of God.
“I assure you that all those who were Christians before death are constantly in the presence of God and God is their shelter”, he said.
Reminding Christians that the blood of Jesus Christ was stainless and purifier, Ven. Young-Harry noted that salvation only comes from Christ, adding “If somebody dies in Christ, he is not lost and stressed the need to honour the fallen heroes for laying their lives that others might have peace.
The Deputy Governor read the first lesson of the service on behalf of the state chief executive.
High point of the service was prayers for the nation, President Yar’Adua, the state and the families of the fallen heroes and serving officers.
