… Approves N1.6bn Counter Part Fund For ETF
The Rivers State Government has approved the sum of N1.6 billion counterpart funds for the Education Trust Funds (ETF), for the operation of the Universal Basic Education programme.
The Board Member I of the Rivers State Board of the Universal Basic Education (UBE), Hon. Lucky Worlu, who disclosed this during a reception organised in his honour by staff of Emohua Local Government Education Authority, also said that the government has approved the employment of one thousand teachers.
Hon. Worlu said that by this development, RSUBEB can now assess the ETF funds, describing it as a positive development as far as education is concerned in the state.
Other approvals by the state government according to him include, the payment of the 2007 leave bonus to teachers in the state, payment of duty post, science and language allowances to teachers.
The UBE Board member I also used the occasion to call on head teachers to implement the policy of failures and pass as specified in the continous assessment, pointing out that, those who fail must be made to repeat classes.
In their separate addresses, both the chief supervisor of Education, Emohua local Government, S. O. Atatu and the chairman, Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Emohua, comrade Edmund Ohaka, said that the event was to thank Worlu for his achievemensts when he was secretary of the authority.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion, sir, S.N Obisike, thanked the UBE Board member for creating employment opportunities for indigenes of the local government area.
The occasion also featured the commissioning of a new office complex built by the board member for staff of the authority.
