Ex-Militants’ Invasion Of Uniport Portends Danger – Alumni
The national Executive Committee of the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association, has predicted more danger for the University, if ex-militants presently camped at Aluu are not relocated.
The National President of the Association Mr Samuel Iyoyo said this at the inaugural meeting of the National Expanded Executive Council in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Iyoyo said that the havoc wrecked on the institution recently by the ex-militants is enough evidence to show that all is not well in the area.
According to him, this situation has underscored the need for the Federal Government to immediately relocate them from the area.
“Let me re-inforce earlier calls made on the Federal Government to re-locate the ex-militant from Aluu.
“It would amount to insensitivity if the unfortunate incidents so far experienced by the University are not taken into urgent consideration and action.
“The placement of ex-militants near an institution like Uniport is very wrong” he said.
Mr. Iyoyo also deplored the killing of the Chief Security officer of the University and called for the establishment of a police division at the institution.
In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of the University Professor Don Baridam said that the university authority is impressed by the commitment of the Association towards the development of the university.
Prof. Baridom who was represented by Professor Enuvie Akpokedje said that the University will continue to sustain the standard of the institution.
