Obuh, Least Paid Coach By NFF
John Obuh, who coached Nigeria’s Under-17 team to World Cup silver, earned a shocking N150, 000 (about $1000) basic monthly salary.
That figure represents a massive pay cut for the former Niger Tornadoes and Kwara United coach, who is said to have earned around N500 000 per month in his last job with the Ilorin side.
Tidesports’ source understands that Obuh, whose net take-home pay after tax came to just over N100 000, was one of the least paid coaches on the NFF’s books.
Super Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu is paid N2 million per month, a figure that comes to N1.8 million after taxes, while sacked Under-20 coach, Samson Siasia earmed N1 million per month in his short, ultimately unsuccessful stint with the Flying Eagles.
Obuh was midweek elevated to the post of Under-20 coach by the NFF, who were expected to discuss a salary and winning bonus review for him and his assistants.
That discussion did not take place, and the coach is expected to remain in the same miserly remuneration, for the foreseeable future.
Obuh will now be assisted by Abimbola Samuel and Suleiman Shuaibu. His former assistant, Monday Odigie, now takes charge of the Under-17s.
