The Commissioner noted that most of the diseases in the state were water and sanitation related, and vowed that there was no room for failure in the task to achieve and ensure the provision of potable water for the people of the state.
She further noted that over the years, all efforts of the past administrations in the state to improve the sector had failed’ noting that in the present era there would be positive development in the sector. Mrs Simon-Hart said the water programmes would rehabilitate all decayed and damaged infrastructure, and develop the water board and rural water supply in the state.
She further assured that the rural development departments would be given increased attention to perform, as well as all departments in the water resources sector.
The Commissioner also said that there would be improved water management at all local levels to promote equitable access and adequate supplies of water in all parts of the state.
Mrs Simon-Hart tasked the ministry’s staff on improved water management, and effective services to give the people in the state potable water, good sanitation and better standard of living. In his address, the chairman of the occasion, Dr Nnanna Victor Onyekwere commended the commissioner for the noble ideas to reposition the staff for effective and sustainable service delivery in the state.
He urged staff of the ministry to use the opportunity to benefit from the workshop organised for them.
Dr Onyekwere appealed that while the training, design and construction of the new water works were going on, government should look at what was on ground and water supply.
