Sanitation: FCT Designates Dump Sites … Moves To Generate Power From Waste
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration has set aside 100 hectares of land in Gosa, within the Federal Capital City as Dump Site for solid waste disposal to improve the state of sanitation in the FCT. The FCT Minister, Senator Muhammad Adamu Aliero who inspected the new site yesterday reiterated that the FCT Administration is thinking of providing a modern dump site that would be accessible at all times. Senator Aliero said that with this facilities put on ground in addition to the importation of 50 Nos. of compacting trucks and street sweepers from Ukrain, the cleaning of the Abuja environment is in for a better deal. The Minister stated that out of the 100 hectares of land 120 acres have been reserved for an investor that would use the waste to generate electricity worth 120 megawatts which is expected to be transferred into the National Grid. Senator Aliero disclosed that another investor has indicated interest in generating 30 megawatts of electricity from Mpape Dump Site which would also be contributed to the National Grid. According to him, the new dump site would be used to generate aviation fuel, to produce NPK fertilizer, water irrigation as well as creating job for 1,000 people. His words: “The electricity generation from the waste would be handled by a private investor under an arrangement of Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT) for the period of 10 years”. He revealed that the FCT Administration has already released the sum of N153 million for the purchase of Bulldozer and Pay Loader to be used at the new dump site. The Minister also visited the Abuja Auto Pound where hundreds of impounded rickety vehicles and thousands of illegal commercial motorcycles confiscated are kept since its ban in October 1, 2006 in the Federal Capital City.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
