Greater Port Harcourt Mega City Set For Branding
The Rivers State Government has signed a contract with a South-African Company called “Black”, on the branding of Greater Port Harcourt and Rivers State.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Dr Godwin Mpi disclosed this recently while charting with newsmen in his office.
Dr Mpi, who signed the contract on behalf of the State Government, said the branding is in line with the on-going Greater Port Harcourt Mega city project of the Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi-led government.
He said the aim is to package the Mega city and make it an investors’ haven as well as a world centre for tourism, second to none in Africa.
Speaking to newsmen after the signing the contract, the Director of the Company, Sizakele Marutlelle, commended the Federal Government of Nigeria on the on-going Re-Branding programme, and clarified that it was different from the Branding project of Port Harcourt Mega City.
According to him, in Re-branding, “there was a brand that was created of Nigeria which is now being re-visited or re-defined, while ‘Branding’ is building something new that will reflect the aspirations of people of Rivers State”.
Marutlelle said the project would create impact on the people individually and collectively in the area of Tourism and improve the image of the State.
She explained that at the end of the project, the State would have been put on the right track that would make it a destination of choice for Investors and Tourists.
Marutlelle continued that the project would involve constant interaction with the rural dwellers, to appreciate their perception, their needs and aspirations, so as to incorporate these perspectives in the project.
She thus called on Rivers people to get involved in the project expected to give the state an acceptable image within and outside the country.
