Defective Buildings Threat To Residents – Commissioner
The Delta State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Barrister Raymos Guanah, has described structurally defective buildings as threat to residents.
The Commissioner made the remark when he led members of the Task Force on Demolition of Illegal Structures on an unscheduled visit to residents of Obiogoadi close, Onaje Street, Asaba following the collapse of a storey building recently.
The owner simply identified as Madam Chijindu, has reportedly not surfaced in public since the commissioner visited. He then directed that she come to his office with documents relating to the house and gave a 24-hour ultimatum for compliance.
Our correspondent gathered that the commissioner and members of the task force have been expecting the woman to surface and aswer questions relating to the building.
When contacted, barrister Guanah, who is also the chairman of the task force, confirmed that the owner of the building was yet to surface.
He added that the task force will soon visit the building gain to confirm the structural defeces, adding that unless the owner takes measures to address the structural problems, the building would be demolished.
The Chairman also hinted that in the next one week, if nothing was done, he building would be brought down.
