Aghahowa Rules Out Return To Super Eagles
Nigerian striker Julius Aghahowa has ruled out a return to the Super Eagles, saying he has given enough to the country and would like to focus on his club career.
“It (Nigerian team) is okay. The new coach wants to involve a lot of well-known players who play at European clubs now. I played for the national team for seven years. I think it is quite enough,” Aghahowa told his club website.
Aghahowa returned to the Ukraine side after a miserable spell with Wigan in England and explains his lack of success in the English top-flight to changes in managers and tactics.
“The problem is that for a year four head coaches changed in the team. Each new coach formed his own play according to his vision of football. I was bought for one coach’s style, and when others came I became useless. So I had to change clubs.”
A move to Turkish side Kayserispor followed, but one call from Shaktar President Rinat Akhmetov was enough to convince the Nigerian to retrace his steps and he says he is focused on doing well for the club rather than thinking of his international future.
“Now all my thoughts are concentrated on performance for Shakhtar. I don’t want to think about something else now,” he said.
