Fire-Arms: Court Decides Bail Application For Ex-Gov’s Aide
A Federal High Court sitting in Yenagoa and presided over by Justice Olayinka Faji will on Thursday June 25, rule whether an accused famous Dannemighan Charged before the court on unlawful possession of fire-arm would be granted bail or not.
The accused, according to the prosecution had in his possession two Pump-Action guns reasonably suspected of having been stolen or unlawfully obtained and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 27(b)(1) of the Fire Armed Act Cap F 28 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge, and his counsel, Mr Kemessuode Wodu, leading five others, said the accused was a perfect gentleman who voluntarily submitted himself to the police on invitation, and that when granted bail will not run away.
However, opposing the bail application, the prosecuting counsel, Mr Henry Ogbeiwi, said the accused has other matters in which police are investigating, saying that granting him bail may jeopardize that investigation.
The accused, Dannemighan, The Tide will recall was a former Special Adviser to Governor Sylva on mobilisation, who was arrested early this month along with three other leaders of Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) over an alleged attempt to assassinate the Special Senior Assistant to the Governor on Youths and confict Resolution, Mr Mike Wenibowei.
It could also be recalled that the accused prior to his arrest had resigned his appointment and joined opposition in criticizing policies and programmes of the state government.
