De-worming Co-ordinator Lauds Judith Amaechi
The Primary Health Care (PHC) Coordinator in Abua/Odual Local Government Area, Mrs Marian B. Walter has lauded the wife of the Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, for sponsoring the free mass de-worming programmes for Rivers State children.
Mrs Walter, who made the commendation at Abua Central, thanked the Abua/Odual Chairman, Mr. Udi Odum, for providing the necessary logistics to ensure the smooth take-off of the exercise in the area.
According to the PHC Coordinator, the exercise in Abua/Odual was very successful and thanked the wife of the governor, and the Rivers State ministry of health for providing the enabling environment for effective implementation of the de-worming exercise particularly in the three designated local government areas in the state.
She noted that in Abua/Odual, a child of about seven years old excreted over 100 worms after taking the drugs, emphasizing that the need for regular de-worming exercise was necessary in order to avoid infections of those that have already been treated, and the healthy ones in the area.
Also speaking, the Deputy Chairman of the Council, who is also the Supervisor for Health, Mr. John Edum, expressed delight and commended the Rivers State Ministry of Health for providing enough drugs for the exercise, adding that council is willing to provide more speed boats to cover the Riverine parts of the area in the next de-worming exercise.
Mr. Edum, however, called on the people, especially nursing mothers to always bring their children and wards for the free de-worming exercise and urged the community health workers to ensure effective implementation of the exercise.
