Emohua LG Boss Intercepts New Artisanal Refinery In Rumuji
As the fight against illegal oil bunkering activities in Emohua Local Government Area continues to make appreciable progress, the Chairman, Dr Chidi Lloyd, has intercepted newly constructed equipment being installed at an artisanal petroleum refining site in Rumuji town.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to LGA chairman, Bright Elendu, indicated that this followed a tip off on illegal oil bunkering activities at the new site.
The chairman’s swift action was in compliance with the directive of the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, to the council chairmen to crush the activities of artisanal crude oil refiners in their respective LGAs.
Consequently, Lloyd, last Wednesday, led a combined team of security personnel and members of the local government task force on illegal oil bunkering into a forest in Rumuji, where construction work was being concluded for the take off of a new artisanal petroleum refinery with over 15 tanks and receivers already fabricated and installed in the site.
Lloyd, who regretted the involvement of highly placed individuals and security personnel in the illegal oil bunkering activities which has brought health-related challenges and economic damages to the people of Emohua and Rivers State, called for the intervention of the Federal Government to ensure that the menace was completely brought to an end.
He thanked the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, for championing the fight against soot, which is majorly caused by illegal oil bunkering activities in the state, stressing that the success of the effort depends on the sincerity of Federal Government-controlled security agencies, who were empowered to fight oil theft and other criminal activities in the country.
The council chairman called for the support and cooperation of community stakeholders, especially in the area of information gathering, to collectively end the soot in the local government area.
