Panic In Enugu Over Sporadic Shootings
Some parts of Enugu metropolis, the capital city of Enugu State and environs this morning witnessed cases of sporadic shootings by hoodlums suspected to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) enforcing illegal Monday Sit-at-home order which the body claimed on several occasions had been canceled.
The shooting caused panic and apprehension among residents of the affected areas, as places like Topland, Amechi-Awkunanaw, witnessed snatching and burning of a Toyota Sienna vehicle and a tricycle at Umueze and Agbani axis of Nkanu West LGA of the State.
Popular Ogbete main market was not spared as the miscreants succeeded in causing panic and pandemonium when they started shooting sporadically in the air as soon as they arrived the market about 10.am in the morning.
The Tide further gathered that the ugly development which seems to have taken the Police and other Security agencies unawares also affected store and shop owners operating in different streets and locations as they were forced to shut down for fear of being attacked by the hoodlums.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has assured residents of Enugu metropolis and the State in general, that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had brought the situation under control.
A statement issued in Enugu on Monday and signed by the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Daniel Ndukwe, read : “Consequently, law-abiding citizens of the State have been enjoined to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment, as Police and other Security Operatives, have been duly deployed to further thwart the untoward activities of the miscreants in the State. Further development will be communicated”, he assured.
