Obey Rivers Border Restriction Order, IPMAN Tells Members
The Rivers State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has called on its members to respect the recent state government’s order on border restriction.
The call is contained in a statement issued by IPMAN’s state Chairman, Mr Joseph Obele, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Obele said the association was in support of the state government’s proactive steps to curb the rising spate of insecurity nationwide.
It would be recalled that the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, last Tuesday, announced curfew on the state land borders between 8pm and 6am.
The state IPMAN chairman said the action by the state government needed to be supported in order to assist security agencies to effectively perform their duties.
“We should reduce night operational hours and probably close sales outlets on or before 8pm since vehicular traffic and night movements are likely to reduce within this period.
“Petroleum marketers should plan all personal movements within and outside the state effectively in order not to break the border restriction order as there is currently no exemption for them.
“Marketers should endeavour to notify family members about personal movements as they journey across states and also report suspicious movements to nearest police stations,” the chairman said.
Obele also expressed optimism on the planned revitalisations of the Port Harcourt Refinery, and urged his members to keep fate with the Federal Government on the project.
“Marketers should remain hopeful as the turnaround maintenance process of the Port Harcourt Refinery commenced, yesterday.”
“The exercise took off with steaming of the Area 5 plant (old refinery) for the purpose of flushing the tunnels, in preparation for the turnaround maintenance billed to commence by next week,” he said.
Obele also enjoined petroleum marketers to continue to maintain approved fuel station rate of N165 to N175 per litre “as private depots still sell to marketers at the rate of N155 per litre”.

HYPREP Tightens Security At Project Sites
Following the rupture of the ground tank of its water facility in Ebubu Community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has tightened security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
HYPREP, which dropped this hint in a statement signed by its Head of Communications, Dr Enuolare Mba-Nwigoh, said the Project Coordinator, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey had given the directive for security to be tightened across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
Mba-Nwigoh noted that the tightening of security across the project sites has become necessary to forestall interference with the facilities.
He further disclosed that following the rupture of the ground tank of the Ebubu water facility, a team led by HYPREP’s Director of Technical Services, Prof Damian-Paul Aguiyi has visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation, stressing that the water facility has been cordoned off for public safety.
The statement indicated that following the incident, HYPREP has henceforth barred non-project personnel and non-facility staff from gaining access into any of its active project sites in Ogoniland without authorisation.
While appealing to residents of Ebubu Community and the public to remain calm, the Head of Communications assured them that the Project is taking prompt steps to restore water to the community, saying, the cause of the unfortunate incident is being investigated.
He equally noted that the Chief Security Officer of HYPREP has been directed to immediately tighten security across all its project sites in Ogoniland.
