Expert Tasks N’Delta States On Wastes’ Recycling
Executive Director of Centre For Creative Development Strategies Mrs Nancy Iheduru, says states in the Niger Delta can create more jobs for their people, if a programme of wealth creation through recycling of waste is developed in the region.
Mrs Iheduru said this at a waste management sensitisation programme at the new layout market, Borokiri Port Harcourt.
She said, solid waste such as plastics and others can be recycled to create wealth and advised traders in the market against missing both solid and liquid waste.
Iheduru commended the traders for the high sanitary conditions of the market and urged for it to be sustained.
She said the programme was to sensitise the traders, market traders in Rivers State on the importance of waste management through recycling and stressed the need for the people of the state to get copies of the Rivers State Waste Management Policy with the view to acquainting themselves of the programme of the state government on waste management.
Also speaking with The Tide, Madam Iminabo Austin Okoroafor, said waste with a source of raw materials for the recycling industries. She also stressed for the traders to avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste in the area.
Also speaking, the Treasurer of the New Layout Market Traders Association, Mrs Nengia Ibaraloye, thanked the centre for the programme, adding that it has helped the traders to know the importance of waste management with the view to creating wealth.
