The Rivers State Police Command has paraded 22 suspects for various criminal offences allegedly committed across various parts of the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Joseph Mukan, stated this while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt, yesterday, on the various achievements by the command, recently.
Mukan also stated that since assumption of office in the state, he has worked assiduously with his team to neutralize all criminal activities/elements in the state, and stabilized the command, which, according to him, was the reason for the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
“This, of course, is due largely to the rejigging and re-strategizing mechanism I put in place that paid off handsomely.
“I will continue to do my utmost best to sustain the tempo, and assure the residents of the state of our preparedness to entrench quality policing services that will stand the test of time, especially in the ember months, when criminals may be on the loose.
“I want to sound it clear that criminals have no place in the state as we are poised to match them, fire for fire, and there is no going back”, he stated.
The state police boss while narrating the achievements, said the operatives of the Eagle Crack Team through intelligence-led policing on August 28, 2020, arrested one Chinedu Elem (30 years) and Chinoso Umah M. (32 years), both of Elu in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, who threatened to kidnap and kill on Chinyere Agilebu, female of No. 4B, Nzimiro Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt.
He noted that due to the threat, the victim paid the sum of N1.5million as ransom.
He further disclosed that on interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime, adding that the sum of N536, 640.00 was recovered from them being part of the money they received.
Mukan added that investigation is still ongoing and efforts were on to arrest fleeing members of the gang.
The CP also said that the Choba security outfit, popularly called OSCPAC on September 2, 2020, voluntarily surrendered one English pump action gun, one long single-barrel gun, four short double-barrel pistols, five single-barrel guns and one English pistol.
Mukan opined that the OSCPAC surrendered the fire arms due to the ongoing mob up operations as directed by the IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu on the proliferation of prohibited firearms across the country at large.
He assured the people of the state of the command’s readiness to fight kidnapping and other crimes to the barest minimum, and solicited for their support through timely information.
