Coronavirus: We’re Set For Lockdown In Edo -CP

The Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Lawan Jimeta, yesterday said that the command would be firm, but fair in enforcing a total lockdown should the state government order such directives.
He explained that because the Edo State Government had not ordered or directed a total lockdown in the state, the police command and other security agencies could only sensitise the public on the dangers of the spread of the coronavirus in the state.
He appealed to their conscience to do the right thing and adhere strictly to measures already put in place by the state government in containing the spread of the pandemic in the state.
He said that the command would also work according to the Inspector General of Police directive as well as the human rights guidelines.
“If government decides on a total lockdown in the state, it will not be as punishment on the citizens, because they were not just part of the society, but also part of the government.
“So, government should come up with measures to ease the hardship that a total lockdown would foster on the people.”
The commissioner, therefore, called on residents to respect the partial restriction of movement put in place by the state government to reduce the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He noted that the restriction would give the state government the opportunity to monitor contacts of reported cases and prevent further spread of the virus.
He noted that the security agencies did not have the full authority to restrict any movements in and outside the state, hence the deployment of advisory techniques in educating the people on the need to respect the partial restriction.
He, however, sued for civility from security agencies in the discharge of their duties not just during the partial restriction of movement in the state, but always.
He also appealed to relevant stakeholders as well as the leadership of various unions in the state to join security agencies in sensitising members of the public as well as their members on the need to listen and obey directives.
According to him, there is minimum enlightenment by stakeholders, but stressed the need for government to embark on massive public enlightenment.
He also commented on the reported activities of a Chinese company in Idogbo, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of the state, where it was alleged that the Chinese company locked in their staff.
Jimeta explained that after thorough investigation, they discovered that the staff are residents in the Staff Quarters of the company and were advised not to leave their quarters to avoid contracting the virus.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.
This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.
According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.
Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”
She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.
As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.
A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.

Allegation of Disrespect to President Tinubu Unfounded — Rivers Government
