Association Seeks Palliative Measures From FG
A group, Artisan Fishermen Association of Nigeria (ARFAN) says the shut down of most economic activities by Government at all levels is a good strategy of checking spread of the dreaded Coronavirus in the country but appealed to the Federal Government to provide palliative measures to its members.
National President of ARFAN, Bishop Godknows Nifeipiri made the appeal yesterday in an exclusive interview with The Tide, in Port Harcourt.
He said: “ The measures of shutting down markets and other businesses or economic activities are fine. It shows care and love because the aim is to prevent us from contracting the dreaded Coronavirus.
“ However, our members also want the Federal Government to emulate other nations by putting in place palliative measures for our members to survive”.
Nifeipiri stated that Fishermen in the country have suffered a lot following the pollution of Rivers as a result of the oil exploration by the multinational oil companies and that the shutting down of fishing and other businesses by the Federal Government as a result of the coronavirus beseiging the globe has compounded their situation.
He wants the Federal Government to go beyond shutting down of businesses by evolving palliative measures like other nations to help artisan Fishermen in the country to survive with their families.
