COVID-19: RSG Warns Against Fake Rumour
The Rivers State Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Coronavirus pandemic, has warned residents of Rivers State and others against the spread of fake news on the disease on the social media.
The committee said this at a sensitisation programme at markets and motor parks in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas.
Markets visited include Mile 1 and Mile 111.The rest are New Market, Garri Market and Creek Road Market, all in the town axis of Port Harcourt.
Also visited were the Fruit Garden Market, Oroworukwo Market, St John’s Aba Road and the Rumuokoro Motorpark.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen at the Rumuokoro Motor Park, the Director Environmental Health and Safety, Rivers State Ministry of Environment,Mr. Chimezie .C.Georgewill said information on the spread of the virus should be obtained from the appropriate channels which include, the World Health Organisation(WHO), Federal and State Ministries of Health as well as the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
The Director who represented the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. IgbiksTamuno also urged the people of the state to maintain the highest level of personal hygiene.
He urged them to wash their hands regularly with soap and water as well as avoid hand shake.
According to him, “when sneezing or coughing, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve at the fixed elbow. Then dispose-off the used tissue safely.’’
