Put Smiles On People’s Faces, District Gov Tells Club Members
Members of the Port Harcourt New Garden City Lions Club (Zone Six) have been charged to always seek ways to put smiles on faces of others as part of service to humanity.
The District Governor of the club, Lion Nsikan Bassey, gave the charge at the weekend, during the Fund Raising Gala/ Installation Ceremony of the newly elected President of the club held in Port Harcourt.
According to him, laughter is expensive, except it is a gift, adding that one question that has been on his mind that was answered during his course of rendering service, was “can the poor also laugh?”
“This question was answered in 2000, during the course of rendering service, as the first chairperson of the club in my country. I actually, saw people laugh after their needs were met”. Lion Bassey said.
The club, he explained is aimed at rendering service to humanity by using their resources, intellect and time as an organization and this comes with a slogan which says “In lionism we serve, together, we serve better”.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion, who is the out going chairman of the club, Lion Iseleye Datubo Amachree, represented by the membership chairman of the club, Lucky Ovili -Odili, in his address, said it was a remarkable day for the club as it marked the beginning of another President and encouraged service minded people to serve their country.
“The event is to encourage service minded people to raise fund for the needy,” Ovilli-Odili said.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President, lion Casmir Ezeonwuka, said it was based on the quote by the third president of Kenya, Nwai Kibaki, which says “Leadership is a privilege to better the lives of others, it is not an opportunity to satisfy personal greed” that he accepted the mantle of leadership and promised to do his best.
