Group Calls For Forest Guards In N’Delta
A Niger Delta-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Patriotic Forum of Niger Delta, has called on government in the Niger Delta region to set up forest guards in the respective states.
The forum said this in a communique at the end of its national executive vouncil meeting in Port Harcourt while reacting to the recent killing by suspected herdsmen of one Lucky Christopher Udaakpan, a farmer at Ukek village Ukanafun and another in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The forum also stressed the need for states in the region to enact anti-grazing laws with the view to monitoring the movement of cattles in the zone.
According to the communique jointly signed by its National Chairman, Owo Udoh and Secretary, Daniel Wilson, the organisation said it would no longer tolerate the continuous killings of farmers in the zone by suspected herdsmen.
The forum with over 380,000 members across the region further advised Akwa-Ibom State Government and other states in the region to setup forest guard to enforce the law and monitor the movement of cattle to ensure that no cattle comes into the zone on foot except by truck and straight to the market.
The communiqué also advised youths of the region to remain peaceful and support their governments for the development of the region.
