The Special Task Force in Plateau State otherwise known as Operation Safe Haven has arrested a gang of fourteen suspected terrorists who were planning to launch an attack in Riyom Local Government Area of the state.
The Special Task Force also arrested two other persons who were said to have threatened to kidnap the Secretary-General of Jama’tu Nasir Islam, Dr. Khalid Aliyu.
Parading the suspects at the STF’s headquarters in Jos yesterday, the Commander of Operation Safe Haven, Major-General Augustine Agundu, said the two suspects were apprehended after the Command received a tasking from the Defense Headquarters that the life of the Secretary-General of JNI was in danger after receiving unanimous calls threatening to eliminate him.
According to him, one of the suspects, Aliyu Tijani is a blood relation of the JNI Secretary-General which was corroborated by Dr. Aliyu while Haruna Abdullahi has been an accomplice for years.
Speaking with journalists, Aliyu Tijani said he conceived the idea to kidnap his cousin with the intention of raising money to pay his house rent and to settle other domestic issues, adding that the threat was to make him cough out the amount but not to kill him.
