Women Group Donates Equipment To Oldest Hospital In C’ River
Obubra General hospital in Central Cross River State, established in 1940 during the colonial administration which over the years had become decrepit was given a lifeline by a women group, Winged Wheel Women Initiative, with the supply of hospital equipment and consumables worth millions of naira.
Making the donation at the weekend, President of the group, Mrs Gety Ogbeche said the group was moved by the devastated state of infrastructure in the hospital and decided there was a need to intervene with the supply of equipment to the hospital to enable it continue to render basic healthcare services to the people, particularly, the vulnerable like women and children.
“We had video clips and pictures of women giving birth on the bare floor and doctors with their bare hands attending to them and when we made a presentation of those clips to some donors they couldn’t but extend a hand of assistance which we added to our own effort and raised the funds to intervene here”.
She said many health facilities in rural areas needed assistance and her group which was an all Cross River women body felt the need to regularly reach out to those facilities in rural areas to put life into them, to position them to provide basic health care to rural dwellers in the state.
