Rivers CP Releases Six-Point Agenda
The new Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Usman A. Belel has assumed office in the State with a promise to remain a political and professionally focused in the discharge of his duties in the State.
CP Belel made this promise during his maiden press briefing held at the Police Officers Mess, Old GRA in Port Harcourt, last Friday.
He disclosed that the mandate of his administration would be driven on six-point agenda which according to him include intelligence policing, constructive engagement and community partnership, recovering of illegal Arms, restructuring of Homicide/Kidnapping and Robbery Unit, zero tolerance for corruption and respect for human rights, as well as providing credible leadership.
The new Commissioner of Police said his administration would intensify the fight against crime and disorder in the State to ensure that crim and criminality were brought to a tolerable level, adding that he would try as much as possible to insulate himself from politics since, according to him, politics is a distraction to policing, “I promise to be professional, focused and non-partisan in the discharge of my duties”.
The CP stated that the Command under his watch would encourage and promote intelligence-led policing and community partnership.
“We shall also embark on visibility policing. The presence of the police shall be felt by all and sundry. We shall not only detect crimes but prevent them”.
“I will put some proactive measures in place aimed at preventing crime and that include, stationing patrol vehicles at all strategic places in the state, we believe that the presence of Police scares criminals. This we shall cash in as a deliberate policy”, he stated.
