NSE Institutes Best Graduating Student Award At College
The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Omoku branch in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State says it has constituted a yearly award of N10,000 for the best graduating student of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku for the next five years.
The NSE branch chairman, Engr. Goodluck Chukwuka Ikenyiri disclosed this when they paid a courtesy call on the provost of the college, Dr Emmanuel Ikenyiri in his office at Omoku, recently
Engr Goodluck Chukwuka Ikenyiri said the award was the contribution of the institute to the training and development of human capacity in technical education in the nation, adding that they have come to appreciate the on-going development strides in the college.
He hinted that the branch was willing to collaborate with the institution for their desired infrastructural development.
“The award, we believe will encourage hard work and provoke interest among technical students of your college”, he opined and further disclosed that the visit was important because of the need for collaborations of the engineering and other professional bodies with all stakeholders in the development of the rural communities in the Niger Delta region.
According to him, “The Nigerian Society of Engineers is the national umbrella organisation for the engineering profession in Nigeria. As a professional body similar to other professional bodies all over the world, it has as its objective to promote the advancement, education, research and practice of engineering in all ramifications”.
He noted that the move would maintain and enhance the professional capabilities of its members and equip them to fulfill the relevant developmental needs of the profession for the good of the public and reiterated that with the great deal of engineering activities going on in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area and its environs, a branch was established in Omoku to serve the engineering personnel in the oil and gas industry, the academic community and in all the local government and its environs.
In his response, the provost of Federal College of Education (Technical), Omoku, Dr Emmanuel Ikenyiri thanked the body for the gesture which according to him, was aimed at boosting educational advancement of the school and promised that the institute would continue to maintain its standard of quality education to meet the yawning needs of the society.
