Banigo Tells Vice Council Chairmen To Support Their Bosses
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has urged the Vice Chairmen of the 23 local government areas in the state to work in synergy with their Chairmen to positively impact the lives of the people at the grassroots.
Dr. Banigo stated this while playing host to the Forum of Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils at the Government House in Port Harcourt, last Tuesday . The Deputy Governor said all over the world wherever women are given prominence the society moves forward because women are agents of positive change.
She said it is unprecedented in the history of the country for a state to have an all-female elected Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils, noting that they must make a mark to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Dr. Banigo advised them to design programmes to engage the youths in their local government areas into productive ventures in order to keep them away from being misled by enemies of the state, stressing that when the people are happy the happiness will overflow and the state would continue to remain peaceful.
According to the Deputy Governor, the state is blessed with a Chief Executive like Nyesom Ezenwo Wike whom she described as a leader who brings everybody together for peace to reign, stressing that despite the negative media hype propagated by detractors of the state, Rivers State would continue to remain peaceful and safe.
In her remarks, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr. Ukel Oyaghiri, who said it was time to work the talk advised the Vice Chairmen to emulate the Deputy Governor whom she described as a woman of integrity and capacity.
She said they must touch the lives of women in their LGAs through which about 70% of families could be touched.
In their remarks, the Deputy Mayor of Port Harcourt, Marian Fiberesima who is the Chairman of the Forum of Vice Chairmen of Local Government Councils and the Secretary of the Forum, Christiana Tamunobereton-Ari said they were in her office to congratulate her on her emergence as the running mate of Governor Wike in his second term bid and for the motherly role and support she gives to the women folk, stressing that they were totally committed to working and ensuring that the Governor’s team succeeds in 2019.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
