RSG Reassures On Empowerment
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo says the Governor Wike-led administration would continue to empower and work with market women and men in the state.
Dr.Banigo stated this during the Governor Wike’s Market Out-Reach Programme organised by her office for the Rivers East Senatorial District at the Rumuwoji play ground in Port Harcourt last Friday.
According to the Deputy Governor, during the 2014 electioneering campaigns, traders of the various markets across the state supported the Governor, noting that the Market Outreach Programme includes free medical screening, and treatment.
She said in this phase traders drawn from markets in the Rivers East Senatorial District would be supported to boost their businesses while traders from the Rivers South East and Rivers West would have their turn soon.
Dr.Banigo who said “there is no vacancy in the Rivers Brick House” urged the traders to use their PVCs to vote out the APC led Federal Government in 2019.
In her address, the Special Guest of Honour, who is also the member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 11 in the House of Representatives, Mrs Blessing Nsiegbe said the present administration has demonstrated love for the market women and men of Rivers State, noting that the Rumuwoji Market which was gutted by fire before Wike took over the reins of Government is under reconstruction.
According to her, the Governor has created an enabling environment for businesses to grow, through the abolition of multiple taxation, provision of soft loans to traders as well as the improvement of the security and infrastructure, stressing that the Governor also intervened swiftly to give succour to traders in the fruits and vegetable market which was recently destroyed by fire.
In their goodwill messages, the chairman of Port Harcourt, Local Government/Council, Hon. Victor Ihunwo expressed delight to host the programme in his domain while the State PDP Women Leader, Mrs. Victoria Allison called on the market women to continue to support Governor Wike in his quest to better their lot.
The Chief Health Educator of Rivers State Dr. (Mrs) Doris Nria who delivered a Health talk on Market sanitation and hygiene, urged them to ensure that the market environment is kept clean to promote healthy living.
Free Medical Screening and presentation of gifts to over 300 women were highlights of the occasion.

LP Crisis: Ex-NWC Member Dumps Dumps Abure Faction
Mr Ojukwu, who recently returned to the interim National Working Committee led by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, noted that the party had 34 elected members in the House of Representatives, eight Senators, and 80 members at the state Houses of Assembly after the 2023 general elections.
“Now we lost all of them,” he said. “I don’t think we have as many as five members in the National Assembly.”
The former national officer of the LP talked to journalists in Abuja and said he chose to join the caretaker committee led by Senator Nenadi-Usman because they are now the officially recognized leaders of the Party.
“I chose to work with the caretaker committee to help save the Labour Party, for the benefit of the party. I also want to use this chance to ask my colleagues at the national, state, and local government levels to come together and help rebuild our party.
“Another election is around the corner. We lost everything we have. They have left to other political parties. So I’ll reach out to all my friends in the other group to get together and work on making this party stronger again.
“The caretaker committee has formed a reconciliation committee. Let’s come together and talk so that we can restore the first opposition political party in Nigeria.”
Mr Ojukwu, who was part of the Julius Abure’s group, said there are no more factions in the LP.
He added, “There is a court ruling, and since it is valid, the right people are in the correct positions.”
He urged Barr Abure and others to drop the legal cases they have filed because they are not helping the party.
“Litigations are killing political parties”, he said. “They’ve seen many political parties disappear because of legal battles, and the Labor Party is losing support every day, which makes me feel sad.”
Mr Ojukwu said he did not think joining the Senator Nenadi-Usman’s NWC was a betrayal of the Abure group, describing himself as “the oxygen” of that faction.
“I’m with this group because of the verdict. But I never betrayed anybody. Rather, I was betrayed,” he added.
