Group Warns Youth Against Illegal Bunkering
A Pan Kalabari group known as the Rennaisance of Kalabari, has charged the youth in the area to desist from illegal bunkering of petroleum products and embrace education to promote excellence and creativity.
The group gave the charge during a mentorship programme organised for youths of Kalabari at Abonnema recently.
Speaking at the event, the Premier of the Rennaisance of Kalabari group, Comrade Iseleye Amachree, decried the growing interest of youths in illegal bunkering activities, stating that the act was destructive to the environment, economy and also leads to wastages of lives.
He noted that most youths have lost their lives in the process of illegal bunkering through fire explosions and attributed the increase in bunkering activities to greed and quick money syndrome.
Describing the human mind as a fundamental resource base, Amachree said the only way for youths in the area to secure their future and live a decent live is to embrace education.
He said the group embarked on the mentorship programme to disabuse the minds of the youth from anti-social behavior towards the pursuit of excellence through education.
He assured the commitment of the body towards the promotion of peace and development in kalabari land, and called on the youths in the area to be vanguards of peace.
Comrade Amachree also cautioned youth against making themselves pliable tools in the hands of politicians, stating that the theme of the programme, ‘Rejuvenating Academic in Kalabari land, was to stimulate a new era of prosperity in the area.
In his remark, the principal of Nyemani Grammar School Abonnema, Isoboye Amabibi, commended the body for its initiative, and urged the youth in the area to take advantage of the programme to impact their lives positively.
He said education remains the only true means of economic liberation for the people, noting that the drive towards illegal bunkering by the youth was a disincentive to sustainable development.
