Rivers ’Il Rule Youth Games In Future -Director
Rivers State Director of sports, Evangelist Ezekiel Ordu has said that the state will rule the country in youth games, in the next three years.
He stated that the State featured youngest athletes at the just concluded National Youth Games, held in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Evangelist Ordu, said this in an exclusive interview with Tidesports, yesterday in Port Harcourt.
According to him, he is satisfied with the performance of athletes, because most of athletes that competed in the competition are mostly under ten and 11.
“I want to say that Team Rivers tried at the youth games, because our children are the youngest in the competition, as majority are under ten and 11 years.
One thing we have achieved is that Team Rivers will rule Nigeria in this youth games in the next three to four years,” Ordu said.
The director of sports in the state, scored the National Screening Committee high, but frowned at the idea of re-screening of some athletes.
“Practically the national screening was in our favour, because only few of our athletes failed the screening unlike some states where most of their athletes were screened out.
“But where they got it wrong was when they started re- screening and brought in over age athletes,” he stated.
Ordu further appealed to Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports, to bring scientific screening machine in subsequent editions to avert age cheating, so that the youth games will achieve its aims and objectives.
