RSG To Revoke Road Contracts Over Poor Quality
Contractors handling road projects in Rivers State have been warned to adhere strictly to the contractual agreement and ensure efficient job delivery or face revocation of their contracts.
The Commissioner for Works, Hon Dumnamene Dekor gave this warning in Port Harcourt, the state capital while inspecting road projects, last Wednesday.
Dekor lamented the poor and slow pace of work going on at Aker Base Road and Nkpor Road in Rumuolumeni community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
“I have not seen any appreciable work done on both sites, particularly on the drains. Zormay Nigeria Limited and Iskat Nigeria Limited are not working according to the job specifications”, Dekor said.
He further stressed that Iskat Nigeria Limited has not done anything commendable on the project awarded to it.
“I am highly disappointed at the poor quality of drain constructed. I will say it is condemnable, and more worrisome is the slow pace of work”, Dekor explained, adding that, “I have been on this site for seven different times, and I see no improvement”.
The commissioner also disclosed that the government would not hesitate to revoke any contract that the contractor was doing contrary to the job specifications.
“The moment we find out that the job is not exactly what we paid for, then, we will be compelled to cancel such contract.
“Also, note that it is tax payers’ money that is used to develop the state, so, we must satisfy the tax payers by delivering quality jobs to them”, he warned.
Dekor charged the ministry engineers to do a holistic supervision of the sites they are assigned to, and submit their findings and recommendations to the office of the commissioner without delay.
“I will deploy a team of engineers in two days from now to this site to evaluate both projects, and whatever is the outcome, we will make our recommendations to the government, and it will be carried out”, he stated.
Road projects inspected include Aker Base Road and Nkpor Road in Rumuolumeni community.
