Eid-el-Kabir: Muslim Leaders Laud Wike’s Strides
Muslim leaders in Rivers State have poured accolades on the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike for executing people-oriented projects that have touched all citizenry, irrespective of their religious inclinations.
The Muslim leaders, who lauded the governor during Sallah visit to commemorate the Eid el-Kabir celebrations in Government House, Port Harcourt, Monday, said the developmental projects have impacted positively on the lives of the Muslims across the state.
Leader of the Rivers Muslim Delegation, Alhaji Qasim Okachi, in his remarks, commended the governor for keeping his campaign promises.
He thanked the governor for sponsoring pilgrims on Hajj as a show of commitment to their religious advancement.
Okachi pointed out that, “We are happy that Governor Wike has fulfilled his campaign promises to the people of the state.
“We commend the governor for his efforts at promoting the welfare of Muslims in the state”, Okachi added.
Responding, Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, said all Nigerians must work hard to ensure that the country overcomes the present trying times.
Wike stressed that this is not a period for unnecessary politicking, as governance should be for the benefit of all the people.
He said: “We must reflect on the trying period that the nation is facing with a view to building a united front to develop the country.
“Let us pray to God to unite the country. We must not do anything that will negatively affect the unity of this country”.
The governor reiterated his commitment to the welfare of all residents, including Muslims in the state.
He said, “this government loves everyone in Rivers State, including Muslims. Most of the states in the North have stopped sponsoring Muslim pilgrims for Hajj, but we have continued to extend this gesture to Muslims in the state”.
The governor called on all religious bodies to work together to ensure that the state moves forward, while reminding them of their civic responsibility of paying taxes to sustain the developmental projects of the government.
Highpoint of the Sallah visit was the special prayer offered for the governor and Rivers State by the Chief Imam of the Rivers State Central Mosque, Imam Abdulmalik Yahaya.
