Commuters Cry Out Over Poor State Of Road
Gridlock has re
turned to the Aleto Alesa section of the East-West Road in the Eleme Local Government Area following the non-completion of that section of the road.
The Tide learnt that from the Pamo junction to a stretch of over five hundred metres close to the Aleto bridge is now impassable and this has led to loss of several man- hours, while several businesses are also being affected.
Meanwhile, commuters plying the road have cried out to the Rivers State Government for help in fixing the section of the road.
Several of the commuters who spoke to The Tide decried the condition, stressing that the situation is affecting their businesses as they spend hours passing through that section of the road.
Speaking with The Tide, Mr Ahamefula Amadi a truck driver, told The Tide that he felt too bad over the non completion of that section of the road.
“I can’t understand why they poured chippings on that section and allow it to be washed away into the river,” he said.
Mr Amadi said that many tankers have fallen over on that road, stressing that the latest one, was a Dangote Cement truck which fell two days ago.
He urged for the intervention of the state government by compelling the contractor, Reynold Construction Company (RCC), to return to that section of the road with a view to completing it.
Also speaking, a spare parts dealer, who spoke under condition of anonymity said that the poor condition of the road has led to vehicles now diverting through the Alesa community thereby exposing the people to danger. He also called on the Governor to come to the aid of the people.
Also speaking, a shop owner, Mrs Mary Elechi said that the situation has slowed down businesses in the area as the incessant flooding of the road has prevented customers from coming out to buy goods. She also called on Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike for help.
Meanwhile, the management of RCC could not be reached for comment as at the time of filing this report.
