The Rivers State Government says it has increased the accessibility to potable water in the state to 25 percent utility ratio within the last one year.
The Commissioner for Water Resources and Rural Development, Chief Ibibia Walter, said this in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
He expressed hope that in the next three years portable water will start flowing in public taps in the state when the state government would have achieved over 70 per cent utility ratio of accessibility to potable water.
The commissioner, also said the state government was embarking on a trip to understudy a World Bank water project in Sao Paulo Brazil with a view of replicating same in the state.
Meanwhile, a group known as Ken Saro-Wiwa Associates has appealed to Governor Nyesom Wike to audit the account of the Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Bori, following allegation of mismanagement of funds against the Chairman of the Governing Council of the institution, Adokiye Amiesimaka.
The Coordinator of the group, Gani Topba, in an open letter to Governor Nyesom Wike, accused the Chairman of the Governing Council, Adokiye Amiesimaka, of embezzlement and financial recklessness.
He alleged that the chairman of the governing council embezzled over N22.5million funds meant for projects and allegedly bought three exotic cars with N45million for his personal use.
Topba also alleged that the chairman of the governing council embezzled take-off grant given to the institution by the governor and surcharge paid by the students as damages for last year’s unrest in the school.
