RSG Okays Kira For Saro-Wiwa Poly Extension

Polytechnic, Bori, has been extended to Dr Nabo Graham-Douglas Model Secondary School (MSS), Kira in Tai local government area of Rivers State.
The Commissioner for Education, Professor Kaniye Ebeku, made the pronouncement during his visit to Kira community, recently.
Ebeku disclosed that the right to occupy the MSS was approved by the state government, and “by that approval, the school is no longer Dr Nabo Graham-Douglas Model Secondary School,” he said.
He told the people of Kira community that the extension of the Polytechnic to the school would be of immense benefit to them.
“With the Polytechnic coming, you are going to have an improved socio-economic life in this area. It is a good thing happening to you, and it will be a kind of compensation to you”, he said.
The Commissioner commended the people for their peaceful disposition, and instructed that the community secondary school, Kira that had already occupied some buildings of the Model School without permission from government continue to remain there until another space was made available for the school.
The education boss further announced that the School II and School 1 primaries should share model primary school building built by the past administration since the buildings accommodating the school II are in a state of decay.
Samuel Nkaainae, who spoke on behalf of the Paramount rule of Tai, Chief Michael Nyor, said the community was happy with the decision of the state government.
He expressed loyalty to the present administration and also called on the state government to show more presence in the community in terms of development.
