Vote Your Conscience, Mrs Wike Tells Electorate
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Justice Suzette Nyesom-Wike has called on Rivers people to vote their conscience in the upcoming rerun elections in the state.
Justice Nyesom-Wike spoke recently during a programme titled, “Little Drops”, a stage play organized by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day at Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt.
The wife of the governor, who stressed the need for people of the state to be peaceful and learn to accommodate each other despite their status, religious and political leaning, urged all to go out en-masse to vote the people they believe will represent them well in all the positions being contested for.
While noting that the state was big enough to accommodate all Rivers people, Justice Nyesom-Wike reminded the people to always bear in mind that when two brothers fight to death, it is a stranger that comes in and inherits their father’s property.
“I am not campaigning; I am speaking as the mother of the state. That is the capacity I was invited. We should all go out and cast our votes, vote your consciences, vote according to the people you believe will represent you well in all the positions they are aspiring to go to”, she asserted.
The wife of the governor also stressed the need to discourage societal violence against women and treat them with respect.
While noting that certain traditions and religions support ill-treatment against women, she advocated the need for the transformation of such cultural and traditional beliefs through education which enlightens the people on ways of life.
In her speech, the Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Mrs. Ibim Seminitari, said the play packaged by Professor Ahmed Yerima, encapsulates the lives of four women navigating the environmental, political, social and economic challenges of the region.
She noted that the play was part of programmes which the commission has lined up to raise awareness, encourage industry among the people and improve human capacity.
