NGO Trains Youth On Wealth Creation
A Non-Governmental
Organisation (NGO), the Carrington Youths Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) Rivers State Chapter, has ended a one day training programmes in Port Harcourt aimed at creating jobs for the people of the state.
The programme with the theme ‘A World Without Trash” was organised to train Rivers youth on how to turn waste into wealth and make money for their livelihood.
According to one of the organizers of the programme, Mr Chibuike Emmanuel, the training programme would enable the youths to create job and solve the problem of waste in their environment. This is our inaugural trash conference and we intend to make it yearly so that participants can go full-scale with wealth creation, he said.
Mr Emmanuel stated that they organised the training in Port Harcourt to bring back the “Garden City” status in the state, saying that the group had organised a clean-up at the Mile I Market, Port Harcourt to show practical example.
He stated that part of their plan was to float a re-cycling plant in the South-South that would create jobs and ensure a healthy environment.
In his lecture, one of the resource persons, Mr Ochia Matthew, explained the importance of cooperative society and fund.
He added that ‘the future of cooperative society is bright as it relates to microfinance and small scale business entrepreneurship in the state.
Also speaking, Mr Ositadinma Ezeobe of City Ware Waste Management described a safe environment as an environment with an effective waste management system and urged the youths to see proud of the job of waste collection as a gold mine.
Some participants from Ojims College Port Harcourt who attended the programme commended the organizers for the training.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of craft made from waste.
