The Rivers State Governor-Elect, Barr. Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said that he will not personalize government, rather he will run a populist-oriented governance in which Rivers people will be key partakers in the polity.
Wike disclosed this, while making a remark at an inaugural public lecture held at Aztech Arcum event centre in Port Harcourt as part of a week-long activities for his swearing-in as governor of Rivers State.
The Governor-elect said his administration would be based on the fundamental objectives of the rule of law and the principle of separation of powers, as the other organs of government, Judiciary and legislature will operate independently.
He disclosed that his first official assignment, after his formal inauguration and swearing-in, would be the opening of the court for normal judicial activities and the proclamation of the Rivers State House of Assembly as the State Assembly Complex is presently in a state of abandonment.
Wike also accused the outgoing governor of Rivers State of “looting the state treasury and vandalizing the Government House”, and assured that his administration will not be intimidated as he will recover Rivers stolen wealth.
He also described, the just concluded local Government election in the state and the swearing-in of LG Chairmen in the 22 Local Government Areas of Rivers State as illegal, and as such, would be reversed.
The Rivers State Governor-elect also stated that he will work with the Federal Government to attract development projects to Rivers State, and called on Rivers Stakeholders to contribute their quota towards the actualization of the new Rivers vision.
In his remarks, the Chairman, inauguration Committee, Sir Austine Opara, called on Rivers people to support the new administration of Nyesom Wike and his Deputy, Dr. Ipalibo Harry-Banigo to enable them deliver the dividends of democracy to Rivers people.
