Kobani Promises Fair Representation Of Rivers Interest
The new Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Mr Kenneth Kobani has pledged adequate protection of Ogoni and the larger Rivers interest at the Federal Executive Council.
Kobani, who said this at a meeting with the leadership of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) in Port Harcourt, also said that his appointment would bring maximum benefits to the people of Rivers State.
The Minister, who described his appointment as historic, also stressed the need for the people to reciprocate the gesture by coming out enmass and vote for the candidate of their choice in a peaceful, violence-free atmosphere.
He said that his visit was not only symbolic, but a mark of respect for the movement and the entire Ogonis.
Kobani used the occasion to pay glowing tributes to Senator Magnus Abe and others for their support in facilitating his appointments.
Speaking, the President of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP), Mr Legborsi Pyagbara said that the appointment was an indication that the Ogoni project 2015 was alive, and also a confirmation that the Ogoni dream still lives on.
Pyagbara, who described the minister as a pillar of support for MOSOP, however, urged him to bring the Ogoni spirit of industry and hardwork to bear in his new appointment.
According to the MOSOP president the development was a reflection that the Ogoni struggle since 1990 was not in vain, and commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the appointment.
Pyagbara, who assured of the readiness of the people to work with him to bring the needed benefit of the appointment to the people, also urged Ogoni politicians to put the interest of their communities above partisan interest in order to move the area, and indeed, the state, forward.
