Cultural Centre To Be Named After Brig. Dan Archibong
The State Governor,
Senator Liyel Imoke, has disclosed that the Cultural Centre Complex would be named after former Military Administrator of the state, Late Brigadier General, Daniel Patrick Archibong for his tremendous contributions to the development of the state.
Governor Imoke made this disclosure during the 25th Memorial Anniversary held recently at the Late Brigadier Gen. Dan P. Archibong memorial park, Barracks Road, Calabar.
Imoke said this had become necessary because of his immense contribution to the state and the nation in general, noting that, being the first indigenous Military Administrator, he ventured into business which gave birth to Marian market.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Mr. Efiok Cobham, “ we owe him our gratitude and respect, as he was one of the frontiers of the peace we are enjoying today in Cross River State”, adding that he fought effortlessly to give Calabar a face lift by phasing out thatch houses in Calabar metropolis, that led to structural growth and development of the state.
“Cross River State is known for celebrating her own, one of the ways of remembering ours is to remember his positive legacies. He stood for industrialisation of the state,” he emphasised.
In her speech, Senator Florence Ita Giwa, described Brigadier Archibong as a mobiliser and an icon of development who was committed to industrialisation and growth of the state to improve the living standard of the people, adding that, it was through his effort that many people became house owners, enjoining all to tap from the legacies he left behind to help move the state forward.
Also speaking, the flag officer, Commanding Eastern Naval Command, Rear Admiral H. H. Babalola, noted that his late colleague molded young men while in service who have become prominent in their career, stating that they were enrolled into the Nigeria Defence Academy, on the 20th August 1975.
In her response, her Excellency, Mrs. Florence Dan Archibong, wife of the late Administrator, on behalf of the family, thanked the state government for the support given her family.
Earlier in a homily, the Arch Bishop Joseph Ekuwem, admonished all to return to Christ, adding that, Christ shared the dual nature of God and man.
“Man thou art dust and unto dust thou shall return, what is important is that Dan still lives on, today, we commemorate his death after 25years,” he stated.
