Commission Restates Commitment To Provision Of Quality Water
The Rivers State Water
Services Regulatory Commission (RSWSRC) has promised to create, promote and preserve efficient industry and market structures, as well as ensuring optimal utilization of resources for the provision of water services in the state.
The Director General of the Commission Mr. Christopher Obasiolu who said this during the commissioning of its office in Port Harcourt, also said that the Commission would reduce to the barest minimum the probability of anyone dying from waterborne diseases through its oversight functions of the water sector.
He described the ceremony as a milestone towards making Rivers State a better and healthier society.
“The RSWSRC will serve as sector Regulator, Licensor Referee, the Adjudicator and Ambudsman. It shall enforce compliance to all applicable regulations, maintain order and ensure sustainability of the investments in the sector, while ensuring that the interest of all stakeholders are protected” he said.
According to the Director General, “The RSWSRC has a broad scope. The authority of the Commission shall apply to state water agencies created under this law, all water services providers consumers and government ministries, departments and agencies, relevant donor/aid agencies.
He further described the launching as a testament to government’s resolve to take Rivers people a way from the trend of negative statistics prevalent across other states in the area of water supply and sanitation services.
Mr. Obasiolu said that, the Commission would ensure the safety, security, reliability and quality of service in the production and delivery of water to consumers, in addition to exercising control over waste water management and discharge.
“We want to therefore formally solicit the support and cooperation of all the stakeholders, especially service providers in Rivers State towards achieving these objectives.
“Water services providers must ensure that the health of the consumers take pre-eminence over all other considerations”.
