Ibile Games Throw Up Table Tennis Talents
No fewer than 10
young table tennis players with potential to excel were discovered at the just concluded Lagos State Secondary Schools Sports Festival tagged “Ibile Games,” a coach has said.
The head coach, Lagos State Table Tennis Association (LSTTA), Mr Samson Ajayi told newsmen of the discovery last week in Lagos.
Ajayi said adequate plans had been mapped down to follow the growth of the young players.
“We noticed not less than 10 athletes who possessed skills that can be groomed; we are looking out for them to ensure they remain in form. “These athletes comprise both male and females,” he said.
Ajayi said that the players were interviewed to know if they truly want to be involved in the sport or participated in it just to represent their school.
“Many of them are willing to take a career in the sport but are afraid of their parents; they insisted that we should meet their parents to get their consent.
“With the way the young players spoke, I could see the zeal in them for the sport, they are young and this is the best time to start grooming them.
“This is a good development for the sport because we have just scouted some more new players who we will be training and will expand the scope of our athletes,” he said.
Ajayi said that the association was scouting for more training grounds to ease the players of some stress. He said that it was necessary to have as many centres as possible where the players can train.
“We want a situation where the players can train at a training centre close to their house and that will constantly gear them to train,” Ajayi said.
