FG To Release White Papers On Visitation Panels
The Minister of Educa
tion, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has disclosed that the white papers on visitation panels to Federal Polytechnics and Colleges of Education across the country would soon be released.
Shekarau, who made this known during an impact assessment visit to the Federal College of Education (Technical), Gombe, Gombe State, expressed the commitment of the Federal Government to respond to all the demands of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Colleges of Education Staff Union (COASU) to forestall future industrial actions by the unions.
He said the white paper retrieved from the office of the secretary to government of the federation is currently receiving attention at the Federal Ministry of Education headquarters stating that the report of the Needs Assessment to Colleges of Education has been received and undergoing review by the Federal Government.
According to him, the leadership of ASUP and COASU has adequately been briefed on actions taken by the Federal Government to address the demands of the unions, which had led to protracted strikes by the two staff unions.
The minister said the impact assessment tour was to see firsthand, the level of progress made by tertiary institutions in terms of implementation of various intervention funds made available to them for infrastructure development in order to improve on teaching and learning environment.
Shekarau, who inspected numerous projects at the institution, including two 300 capacity auditoriums constructed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), also commissioned a twin lecture theatre at the college.
According to him, education remains critical towards effective transformation of the country, adding that, President Jonathan has accorded the sector priority place in his development agenda.
He appealed to staff and students of the college to reciprocate the gesture of the Federal Government in its efforts to revamp the education through the ongoing massive infrastructural development and improvement in condition of teaching and learning in public institutions across the country.
