Judicial Crisis: I Hold Nothing Against Okocha -Amaechi

The Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon Chibuike Amaechi has said he holds nothing against Justice Daisy Okocha in becoming the chief judge of the state, but rather was following the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution.
Amaechi, who stated this on Wednesday, during a special live Radio programme, in Port Harcourt said the lingering judicial crisis in the state was cause by the opposition politicians who have refused to distinguish between personal and state interests.
He recalled that after the recommendation from the State Judicial Council (SJC) to the National Judicial Council (NJC), and the NJC made their recommendation to him, he rejected and asked for another recommendation but because the NJC has taken a stand, the body insisted on Okocha.
‘’I requested from them to show me where it is in the Constitution that they must disqualify somebody. The law said any lawyer who has served 10 years in the Bar is entitled and qualified to be appointed as chief judge.
“So, it was based on this that I had to recommend Justice Peter Agumagu again. And there is a high court judgment on it. I hold nothing against Justice Okocha, but rather adhering to the law as stipulated in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’’, he said.
He also stressed that the opposition should be blamed for the negative effect of the prolonged crisis, adding that in the 2015 governorship election, there was no basis for another Ikwerre man to occupy the Government House after he had completed his tenure.
The governor urged Rivers people to follow him, if they are actually convinced and satisfied with what he has done as governor, but warned that they should not be deceived with lies and falsehood.
He regretted that the police in the state were being controlled by the wife of the President, Dame Patience Jonathan, alleging that the police ignored his instructions and followed the directives from Dame Jonathan.

HoS Hails Fubara Over Provision of Accommodation for Permanent Secretaries

The Head of Service (HoS) of Rivers State, Dr. Mrs. Inyingi S. I. Brown, has commended Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for approving befitting accommodation for Permanent Secretaries in the state.

This commendation was contained in a press release made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt.

According to the Head of Service, Governor Fubara has continued to demonstrate uncommon commitment to the welfare of civil servants in Rivers State, stressing that such gestures underscore his people-oriented leadership style. She urged civil servants across the state to remain supportive of the governor’s administration in order to sustain good governance and effective public service delivery.

Speaking on behalf of the Body of Permanent Secretaries, Dr. Brown congratulated Governor Fubara on the occasion of his 51st birthday, describing him as “a Governor who leads by serving.”

She further praised the governor’s service-driven and people-centred leadership approach, noting that it has significantly contributed to institutional stability and improved efficiency within the state’s public service. Special appreciation was expressed for the approval of a befitting accommodation complex for Permanent Secretaries, which she said reflects the governor’s commitment to staff welfare and enhanced productivity.

As part of activities to mark the governor’s birthday, the Body of Permanent Secretaries announced the sponsorship of 329 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for indigent students across the state.

A breakdown of the initiative shows that 319 forms will be distributed across the 319 political wards in Rivers State, while five forms are allocated to non-indigenes and five forms to persons living with disabilities.

The Body of Permanent Secretaries wished Governor Fubara continued good health, divine wisdom, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Rivers State.
