Posters Proliferation Worries PH Residents
Residents of Port
Harcourt and environs have decried the indiscriminate pasting of posters along the streets of Port Harcourt.
A cross section of residents who spoke to The Tide on the issue, said that the situation is fast defacing the city.
They urged the government to set up taskforce to check the situation, stressing that anyone found pasting posters indiscriminately should be arrested and persecuted.
Speaking on the issue, a resident, Mr Alabor T. J. Eborom, said that those carrying out the act especially politicians and churches, must be sensitized to desist from it. Mr Eborom said that the situation was becoming an eyesore as every corner of the city was filled with posters of one politician, churches or the other, stressing that thus situation cannot happen in Abuja and Calabar.
Also speaking, Mr Onyekachi John, also described the situation as an eyesore.
He said that, both the ministry of environment and other agencies need to wake up to the challenges of checking the trend.
According to him, a taskforce made up of persons outside the government, should be set up to tackle the problem, stressing that every poster must be traced to the owners with the view to arresting them.
On his part, a northerner who gave his name as Alhaji Laula, also decried the problem, noting that, the authorities must wake up to protect the beauty of Port Harcourt City.
He also decried the proliferation of potholes on Port Harcourt roads and urged those incharge to ensure that they are filled.
A trader under the Port Harcourt flyover, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said that traders under the flyover are facing hard times due to the level of waste being dumped around the area pointing out that, most people now avoid coming to buy from them.
