Traditional Ruler Urges Environmental Sanity In Ogoni
Traditional Ruler in Ogoni, land, Rivers State, Mene Sunday W.Kotex, has advocated a holistic environmental sanity in the area to save the natural environment of the people from further despoilation.
Mene Kotex who is the Diiragbo Mene of Ogoni, described the environment as man’s first right and lamented the damage done on the Ogoni environment through decades of oil exploration by multinational companies.
He commended the Federal Government over recent steps taken to the implementation of the UNEP report in Ogoni, and urged strict adherence to the report in line with international standards Mene Kotex, who is also a member of the vision 2020 presidential committee on water sanitation also commended the Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi over his development objectives in Rivers State, especially his planned effort to provide portable water in Rivers State.
The Royal father who described Rivers State as the economic nerve of Nigeria, also urged multinationals operating in the state to be environment friendly in their operations and also live up to their corporate social responsibilities.
He maintained that Rivers Communities deserved the best interms of economic transformation given the contributions of their natural resources to National development.
